Contact Lens Wear: Inserting & Removing Your Contact Lenses

When it comes to contact lens wear, one of the most difficult things for new users to learn is how to insert and remove their contact lenses.

Contact Lens Wear: Inserting Your Contacts

While it can be very difficult initially, after a time, inserting your contact lenses will become a very natural part of your daily life. If you follow a few simple guidelines, contact lens insertion will be made simpler and your contacts will be comfortable from the moment you put them in your eyes:

1. Wash and dry your hands thoroughly;

2. Keep a mirror, your lens case and a rinsing solution within reach;

3. Tip the lens from your storage case into your cupped palm and check for debris or rips;

4. Place the lens on your finger so that the cup is facing up;

5. With your other hand, gently hold your eyelids open;

6. Look up or straight ahead, however you feel most comfortable, and gently place the lens on your eye;

7. Release your eyelids, look down and blink to position the lens over your cornea.

Contact Lens Wear: Removing Your Contacts:

1. Wash and dry your hands thoroughly;

2. Gently hold your lids open;

3. With the index finger of your free hand, pull the lens down;

4. Gently "pinch" the edges of the contact with your index finger and thumb to remove it from your eye;

5. Follow the necessary cleaning and storage procedure.
