Specialty Contact Lenses

Specialty contact lenses are also known as wild eyes contact lens, special effects contact lenses, crazy contact lens, or even costume or novelty lenses.

They are typically used in a theatrical setting, and in fact for many years have been used on movie sets to create special effects. These lenses are also very popular for special occasions, like Halloween, as the name costume contacts would imply. In fact, novelty contact lenses come in such a wide variety of styles, you're sure to enhance any costume.

Novelty contacts are available to those who normally wear contact lenses, and also to those who don't need vision correction. But even though these specialty contact lenses are designed purely for fun, you still need to get a prescription from an eye care professional.

Types
There are several brands available that offer costume or novelty lenses, but the most popular labels are WildEyes (CIBA Vision). WildEyes offers cat eye, zebra, alien, jaguar, black-out and wildfire, to name a few. Other special effects lenses include crazy daisy, black wolf eyes, stars & stripes, Darth Vader, zombie, and vampire, among others.

Care
Costume contacts must also be cared for in the same manner as regular contact lenses - this means they must be properly cleaned and disinfected in order to maintain good ocular health. And it is extremely important that you do not share your specialty contact lenses with others, since serious eye diseases and infections leading to blindness can arise from incorrect use and care of any contact lens.
